Leap Year Restaurant, Entertainment & Travel Deals

Leap Day, February 29th, arrives once every four years — and 2016 is one of them. The reason there are 366 days every four years instead of the standard 365 is to remain in sync with the true astronomical year. It actually takes the Earth approximately 365.24 days to orbit the Sun, so Leap Year allows it to play catch up.

In honor of Leap Year there will be some great offers. Some are for leaplings only (that's someone with a birthday on 2/29). Here is a list of Leap Year deals, discounts and free offers:

Travel Deal: $50 and receive a $100 gift card for TravelocityIncentives.com

good morning!  i hope all of you had a happy weekend.  i took care of a couple things that have been nagging me on my to-do list.  you know how it goes, life sometimes just gets a bit crazy and this time of year it is one of the craziest.   my emails were drowning me and i had to take control.  i was 1500 emails deep yesterday morning when i, armed with a very strong cup of coffee, prepared for the mass elimination.

i started out by searching all of the subscriptions i have, groupon, living social, etc. and deleting them in mass.  then i deleted the newsletter subscriptions i requested, but haven't taken the time to read in a very long time.  i went from 1500 to 167 emails.  what a great feeling.  i can breath again.

most of the sites were super easy to unsubscribe from. click click.  done.  but not dealster.  someone was thinking over there. lol. this is what happens when you go to unsubscribe from dealster.com.

so glad i knocked this off of my to-do list.  if cleaning up your inbox is on your list of things to do, i have the same sentiments as dealster - if you subscribe to my feed, thank you and please don't go.  and if you don't subscribe, it would be cool if you did ;-)    Visit here for tons of great tips on email management.

And dealster,  genius using kc and the sunshine band to win us back.  evil genius.  you made me laugh this morning.  thank you.  and thanks for the great travel deal right now too!  Over at Dealster.com pay $50 and receive a $100 gift card redeemable at www.TravelocityIncentives.com.

Free Stay at Participating Bed and Breakfasts for Military

In observance of Veterans Day, November 11th, select Bed and Breakfasts (B and Bs) and Inns are providing FREE rooms on Thursday, November 10th, to honor servicemen and women currently serving or who have previously served their country.

Memphis Mommy did this last year and chose an Inn in Hot Springs Arkansas and had the most amazing experience! What a wonderful program this is! This year it includes 310 Inns, most places will only have a few rooms available so click here to see U.S. properties and click here to see Canadian properties that are participating in the program.

It is highly suggested you call today if you would like to find a room. A valid Military or VA ID will be required for your reservation and while there is NO CHARGE, you must hold the room by giving a credit card number.

thanks my memphis mommy

Travel Deal: PGA National Resort and Spa

I have been in the mood for a little vacation lately, and I plan on going as soon as I find the time and a super great deal to somewhere (I don't know where I want to go yet). My indecision could work out to your advantage however.   Since I don't know where I want to go or how I want to get there I have been checking out all sorts of sites for deals.

Over the past couple of days I have posted a few great travel deals, like the Amtrak special for parents traveling with their junior or senior for college campus visits, water park deals, and a Columbus Day Weekend getaway to Sandestin. For more great travel deals, visit here.

Today I found a couple super duper deals over at Eversave.  They have a deal at PGA National Resort and Spa - pay $115 for a one-night stay for two adults in an Executive Suite from now until October 13, 2011 or $135 from October 13 to December 22, 2011 in this AAA four-diamond resort.  Your $115 includes a $25 spa credit.  Up to two children under 12 can stay for free.  I have been to this resort before with a few girlfriends when I lived in South Florida another life time ago - it is beautiful!!

With Eversave, if you sign up today, they will credit you $3 just for joining.  Visit Eversave for all the details, find out about their other great offers, or to purchase this little vacation in paradise!

happy travels!

High Hampton Inn - a great place to start a new family tradition!!

High Hampton Inn is one of the best places

for a family reunion EVER!

I recently spent a weekend at the High Hampton Inn in Cashiers, N.C. and had such a beautifully relaxing experience.  High Hampton Inn has 1,400 acres and gorgeous views with so many wonderful trails, a huge lake, and tons of old fashioned activities for families to partake in. (and a few new ones like the Zumba fitness classes.)

My kids left for a 10 day trip to Alaska with their dad the weekend I was able to visit the Inn so they didn't get a chance to experience it, but we will be back - and soon.  What a beautiful, wholesome family friendly place.  It was so refreshing to see teenagers throwing around a football and taking hikes and families playing games outside together.  Every night there was something going on in the lobby for families.  You can always find several generations of family playing bingo together and enjoying board games and chatting in the main lobby of the Lodge. There is one television in the main lobby and few families were catching up on the tennis matches while others played ping pong outside on the huge porch.

The rooms at the High Hampton Inn are considered rustic and you won't find televisions, phones, or air conditioning.  We left the windows open through the day and night with a fan provided by the Inn - what a lovely way to sleep - the fresh mountain air felt fantastic!

Another one of my favorite things about my stay was the Full American Meal plan which is included in the room cost.  This works out to a HUGE money and time saver. We all know how crazy expensive feeding a family who has been out hiking, swimming, canoeing, paddling, playing tennis, golf, and waterfall trips can get. We were most assuredly ready for meal time when it was ready for us.  And WOW - every meal was fresh, full of variety, and very delicious.  We enjoyed tons of fresh fruit and vegetables at the meals.  There are so many choices of salads, meats, side dishes served on the buffet. And the dessert table - YUMMY!   I mention the Meal Plan being a time saver as well, because once you arrive you are assigned a table and you have that table for the duration of your stay so you never ever have to wait for a table to open up.  LOVED the "no waiting for a table" thing!! I have been on so many family reunions where a hungry crowd of 20 of us had to wait for the restaurant (1) to have tables open, and (2) for them to put the tables together for us -- and when you are ready to eat, and more importantly, your children are ready to eat, this is never a fun 10 - 30 minutes!  You will not have that problem at High Hampton Inn - you will never have to wait for a table and you will always get to sit together - making your family time so much more relaxed and enjoyable!!

They also have a beautiful spa and health center on the property.  I had a wonderful and much needed facial and learned a few handy and inexpensive tips from Mel (thanks very much Mel - you were AWESOME!)

The Inn is doing something new this year called Dinner in the Dahlias where 30 guests will be seated at a long table decorated with and surround by the heirloom dahlia blooms.  I assure you this is going to be an amazingly beautiful experience.  The dates for Dinner in the Dahlias will be on August 30 and September13, 2011.  Guests will learn all about the history of the Inn’s stunning flowers while enjoying a delicious multi-course meal under the twilight sky.  The price for the dinner is $52 per person, and it will begin at 6 p.m.

Rates: Spring and Fall rates range from $127 to$148. Summer rates start at $145 to $165. All of these rates are based on Double Occupancy. Many of these rooms are pet friendly. Room rates include Full American Plan (breakfast, lunch, and dinner). Rooms are considered rustic and are without televisions, phones, and air conditioning. Additional Fees: Once a third person is added to the room, there is a $72 extra occupancy fee. Children ages 4 thru 8 in room with 2 adults will be charged a meal fee of $41. All children ages 3and under are free.
They also have Vacation Homes for rent which would be perfect for a family reunion! To find out more about High Hampton Inn or to book your stay, visit here.  For a great review on some of the standing traditions of the Inn (like the coat and tie at dinner for men), visit here!

Disclosure:  High Hampton Inn hosted me for two nights in exchange for this review.
