I feel beyond fortunate to have been included amongst the few people who were lucky enough to meet Po, the baby panda cub of Lun Lun, this morning at
Zoo Atlanta. What a beautiful baby he is! I was so enamoured by the baby cub I didn't even realize it was Jack Black standing there with him. And I was the photographer of this picture. sooooo . . . yeah, the cub is THAT adorable! And so is Jack Black!! It was a super cool experience I will not soon forget.
The baby cub turned 100 days old today (Tuesday, Feb 15, 2011) and in keeping with Chinese tradition was officially named. With Po standing close by, Mr. Black proudly revealed the new baby cubs name -- Po!! [cheers and applause].
The people in attendance included the
Governor of Georgia and the
President and C.E.O., of Zoo Atlanta. All panda bear cuteness aside, the two men spoke of the significance and importance of both the the birth of Po and the support of
DreamWorks Animation SKG, and how it is positively affecting panda bear conservations efforts, particularly at the
Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. Happy pride was in the air and it felt great!
There were a bunch of little pandas in attendance today too- well
students from Parkside Elementary and Kipp Elementary donning panda bear wear anyway! Now that is some panda preciousness!
The
AJC reported this morning the baby cub is now 11 pounds and took his first steps a few days ago. Baby Po will be making his debut to the public sometime in the Spring. Until then, keep watching his snuggly cuteness on the
Zoo Atlanta Panda Cam.
Big Po and Jack Black will be making their movie debut for
Kung Fu Panda 2 in late May.
What a beautiful and surreal morning! and then I got home and did breakfast dishes and a load of laundry LOL. Big thanks to Kyle at
Paramount Pictures for adding My Atlanta Mommy to the list of luckies!
And totally off the subject, but for sure worth mentioning - the cookies they handed out by
Ali's Cookies - DEEElicious! I grabbed one for me and for each of the boys for an after school surprise, but ahm, there MIGHT be one left they can all share by the time they get home ;-) kidding. but it won't be easy!
